<Student Welfare>

<Regulations> 


1. Regulations on attendance, repeat of course and registration

A. Attendance: The following restrictions are applied for attendance. 

 1) Arriving within 15 minutes after the class starts is counted as tardy/late.

 2) Arriving 15 minutes or more after the class starts is counted as absent.

 3) Students leaving early within 30 minutes after class begins will be counted as absent for that particular class; leaving after 30 minutes from the beginning of the class will receive “left early” mark of that particular class. 

 4) 3 instances of leaving early or being tardy will be counted as one absence. 

 5) Field trips, school activities, and other institute - related functions are considered “equivalent” to classroom instruction; failure to attend will be counted as absent.

 6) Absences due to the attendance of an official IIE event will be recognized as a legitimate excuse.

 7) Cases of temporary departure are not generally permitted. However, exceptions may be made for valid reasons. Permission may be granted for a temporary leave after consulting with your homeroom teacher.

 8) In the case of temporary departure due to personal circumstances, this will be treated as an absence even if there is prior permission. However, if the students leave Korea temporarily for his/her university entrance examination or graduation certification test, he/she will be granted 3 days for the test date, departure date, and entry date (above 3 days will not counted as absences) (if the examination exceeds 2 days, allowance will be made after consultation with the student’s homeroom teacher). Also, official documents for the evidence should be submitted.

 9) Absences due to illness requiring hospital admission will be excused after the official documents for evidence has been submitted. Absences due to illness requiring medical attention but no hospital admittance will not be excused.  Early departure due to sudden illness in class will be excused.


B. Repeating of a Course : One or more of the following conditions must apply.

 1) If the student fails for the next level

1) Repeating the class

- If the average score of all subjects (The score before reflecting the class attendance & class participation rate) does not meet the following criteria

   ① Beginner: 70 points

   ② Intermediate: 65 points

   ③ Advanced: 60 points

2) Fail

- If grades for grammar do not meet the following criteria

  ① Beginner1 - Intermediate2: 60 points

  ② Advanced: 50 points

- Average of two or more subjects are less than 50 points

 2) the students’ overall attendance rate in a term falls below 80% (160 hours of instruction for 10-week program)

 3) Although the grade criteria has been met, if human communication skills are significantly low or reason for failure is determined to be significant at the assessment meeting, advancing to the next grade may be restricted. 


2. Warning / Expulsion: An academic warning or expulsion may result from the following:

A. Expulsion will result from an attendance rate of less than 70%.

B. In the event of three consecutive non-excused absences of IIE class shall notify the parents/guardians/sponsors. 

C. An attendance rate of less than 80% within one month will result in an academic warning.  An attendance rate of 80% or lower for the entire semester will result in being unable to advance to the next level.  Three consecutive failures to advance to the next level will result in expulsion.

D. If there is the case of cheating during an exam, the student who cheated for the first time will get zero points in that subject. However if he/she cheats again, the student will be expelled. 

E. The student will receive a waring if he/she do delinquent behavior or use of abusive language toward peers or teachers during the class.

F. If you are warned twice for violating various regulations, such as school rules and quarantine rules, or if your study is deemed impossible, you may be expelled even during the semester.

G. Korean regulations must be followed at all cost and if you act against the law, you can be expelled immediately.

  

3. Miscellaneous

A. After finishing the language course, each student must inform details of future plans to their homeroom teacher such as transferring to a language course at another university, entrance to university in/outside of Korea and permanent departure. If a student wants to extend study period, registration within the previously informed deadline is required.

B. The study period as well as institute cannot be altered if you agreed the study period prior to enrollment.

C. Based on the discussion, faculty members make a decision regarding repeating the same level, restricted registration, warning, expulsion, repatriation, and other matters.

D. All students participating in the program must abide by all terms and conditions set by the Institute and Korean Laws.

E. Certificate of Completion will not be issued for students who are expelled or fails the course due to low grades or attendance.

F. A graduation diploma is available only to those who have completed level 6 or higher at the Institute of International Education.

G. Based on the Korean law, all students must be enrolled in international student insurance. If the student only has his/her own country insurance certificate, the student must submit it in English.  In the event that insufficient documents were submitted for insurance, or no application was made for insurance, the student must leave the dormitory and will be ineligible for certain certificates along with having limitations on individual study and the ability to register for certain courses.

H. During your stay in Korea, after installing the self-isolation app you must check self-diagnosis every day.

I. Part-time employment must meet all of the following conditions:1) Completion of 2 semesters or more of regular semester2) Over 90% of the average attendance rate for the semester3) Have at least TOPIK level 2

However, it is not allowed to exceed 20 hours

of work during the week. 

* 3D jobs, adult entertainment establishments, weekend jobs are not allowed.  

* If you wish to be allowed for part-time jobs, you must visit the IIE office for the application.
