Regular Courses–OnCampus

Foreigners and overseas Koreans 18 years and older are eligible for the Regular on-campus courses offered four times a year for 10 weeks in Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.

Features
  • Students take a placement test and are assigned to a class appropriate for their proficiency level.
  • In the morning classes, students will use the Kyung Hee Korean textbook, which covers grammar, listening and speaking, and reading and writing, to improve their overall Korean communication skills.
  • In the afternoon classes, students can choose from a wide range of cultural subjects, such as Korean drama and K-pop, or special subjects, such as Korean pronunciation clinic, debate, or TOPIK prep.
  • If needed, students can contact an instructor who speaks their native language for counseling.
  • Students can also learn about Korean language and culture by interacting with Korean Helpers (Kyung Hee University students).
  • Each semester, students can broaden their understanding of Korean culture by going on a field trip (DMZ, Lotte World, Nami Island, performance, etc.) or taking other special subjects, including calligraphy, cooking, or barista training.

Beginner 1 (Level 1) Develop basic Korean communication skills for everyday life in Korea.
Understand and compose simple sentences used in daily life.
Beginner 2 (Level 2) Perform linguistic functions needed for daily life, including using public facilities and performing daily tasks.
Understand and compose relatively long paragraphs about personal and familiar subjects.
Intermediate 1 (Level 3) Perform basic linguistic functions needed to use various public facilities and to maintain social relationships.
Understand and compose a paragraph about familiar social issues.
Intermediate 2 (Level 4) Perform linguistic functions needed to use public facilities and to maintain social relationships, as well as perform general work tasks.
Understand and use materials on general, social, and abstract topics relatively accurately and proficiently.
Advanced 1 (Level 5) Understand specialized topics, including culture, art, economy, and society and be able to write and speak at an advanced level.
Fluently use expressions that are appropriate for the given situation and be able to differentiate between formal/informal and spoken/written terms according to the context.
Advanced 2 (Level 6) Perform linguistic functions needed for research or other professional fields accurately and fluently.
Handle a variety of unfamiliar topics in the areas of politics, economics, society, and culture.
Korean Studies Perform linguistic functions needed for research or other professional fields at the level of a native Korean speaker.
Understand Korean language and culture overall and be able to handle specialized and scholarly subjects.
