Visa (or Certificate of Visa Issuance) Application Process
  • When applying for a Visa (or Certificate of Visa Issuance), during the document screening process, required documents may be waived or added depending on judgements made during the evaluation process.
  • Kyung Hee University IIE accepts students with Visas issued by foreign consulates.
  • Once accepted to the Korean Language Program, you are eligible for a D-4 or C-3 visa.
  • Depending on the nationality of the applicant and the type of Korean language course, the required documents may vary, so please contact the embassy to verify the requirements.

      If Certificate of Visa Issuance or Visa Issuance Number is needed, submit only passport, Visa Issuance Application, and Visa Issuance Approval Form (or Visa Issuance Approval Number)

    • Documents: Please submit the following items. (Submit the Certificate of Visa Issuance or Visa Issuance Number to a Korean Embassy or Korean Consulate).

    Required documents can be waived or added during the document screening process.

Common Documents for Submission
  • Passport (copy of passport if applying for Certificate of Visa Issuance)
  • Visa Issuance Application Form or Visa Issuance Approval Letter
  • Fee (single-entry visa: equivalent of USD 50, multiple-entry visa: equivalent of USD 80)

    There is no fee when applying for a Certificate of Visa Issuance.

If you are at Kyung Hee IIE to
  • take a Korean language course
  • a standard acceptance letter
  • a receipt of tuition payment
  • a business license
  • Kyung Hee University Language Study Plan
  • a certificate of graduation or enrollment
  • documents verifying financial status (bank statement with a balance of over KRW 10 million or a transaction receipt or currency exchange receipt showing that amount)

    A reference from IIE or a letter of financial support may be substituted for financial documents

  • For Chinese nationals, please submit a copy of your Resident Identification and a copy of your Family Tree Registry
Alien Registration Card Application
  • If you are staying in Korea longer than 90 days, you must apply for an alien registration card from the Immigration Office assigned to your address.
    • As of July of 2011, to apply for an alien registration card, you must visit the immigration office in person to scan your fingerprints.
  • If you are a D-4 visa holder, please see the required documents below.
    • Passport
    • 1 copy of passport: A4 size
    • Confirmation of Visa Issuance (Please visit the Republic of Korea Visa Portal at https://www.visa.go.kr to print out the form)
    • Application Form: Please visit the IIE administration office

      Your Korean address must match your current residential address, and you must report to the Seoul Immigration Office near Mok-dong Omokgyo Station unless you reside in Jongno-gu, Jung-gu, Eunpyeong-gu, Dongdaemun-gu, Seongbuk-gu, Gangbuk-gu, Dobong-gu, Nowon-gu, or Jungnang-gu.

    • 1 color photo (3.5㎝×4.5㎝): background must be white
    • Proof of Enrollment: Please use the kiosk located in the IIE lobby
    • Fee: ₩30,000 (government service fee)
Visa Extension
  • If you wish to stay in Korea longer than the previously approved period of stay, you must obtain permission to extend your visa.
  • Visa Extension Approval Application Period
    • A foreigner who wishes to extend his or her visa must apply for the extension approval from two months before the current visa expires until the expiration date on the current visa.
    • If you apply for extension approval after your current visa expires, you will be fined.

  • Visa Extension Approval Application Process
    • You or a legal representative (application by agent not allowed for overseas Koreans with F-4 visas) must submit the required documents (as shown below for each type) to the immigration office assigned to your residential address.
    • Application is valid only when the applicant is physically present in Korea on the day of application (application by agent not allowed from overseas)

    If deemed necessary during the screening process, required documents may be waived or added.

    • Passport and Alien Registration Card
    • Application Form
    • Certification of Enrollment (must include the period of study and attendance details)
    • Certificate of Attendance
    • Certificate of Planned Enrollment
    • Document verifying financial status (bank account statement) or a letter of guarantee
    • Fee (Processing fee, ₩60,000)
