The Institute of International Education at Kyung Hee University and Yonhapnews held the first World Korean Language Speech Contest for Foreigners in 1998 to commemorate the 600th anniversary of King Sejong’s birth(1997) to provide a place for the world to communicate in Korean.
With the national image and the culmination of the new Korean Wave, it motivates foreigners learning the Korean language around the world to study it and provides a place for mutual exchange and understanding.
As the home of the Korean language and culture, it provides a venue to publicize Korea’s status and the excellence of the Korean language and culture both at home and abroad.
As the place where Koreans and people from around the world build mutual understanding and exchange through the Korean language, it aims for internationalization, globalization, and multiculturalism.
As public diplomacy of the Korean language, this contest provides an opportunity to promote friendship between Korea and participating countries.
Kyung Hee University is ranked the No. 1 in Korea for global status. The Institute of International Education contributes to globalization by promoting Korean language and culture education worldwide as a world-class Korean language and culture educational institution.
