    What are the eligibility requirements for the Institute of International Education?

    You are eligible to apply for IIE’s Korean Language courses if you are:

    a foreigner or overseas Korean who is 18 years or older.

    I realized I won’t be able to attend the class after registering. Can I defer until next semester?

    Yes, you can. You can defer one time within 6 months. 


    Deferral requests can be submitted before 1/3 of the class has passed. If you defer, you cannot receive a refund.

    What are Korean Helpers?

    Korean Helpers are Kyung Hee University students who volunteer to help you adjust to life in Korea.


    They will play the role of a good friend who will help you to not only better understand Korean language and culture, but also to talk about common interests.

    When is the Korean Speech Contest held?

    The World Korean Language Speech Contest for Foreigners is one of the signature events hosted by Kyung Hee University IIE. It is held every year in mid-May. 


    An announcement with detailed information is posted during the Spring semester, and any interested student can 

    apply for the contest.


    ※ It will be held around September~October in 2022. Please check the notice later.

    What is the application process for the IIE?


    The application process for the Korean Language courses is as follows:


    (1) Fill out the application documents and prepare the required documents. 

     Then mail/post them to Suite 106, Institute of International Education, Kyung Hee University, 26 Kyungheedae-ro, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, 02447, Korea.


    (2) We will notify applicants of the results after screening the application materials. 

    (Results will be sent via email. Please be sure to include your contact information on the application documents. Submitted documents will not be returned.) 


    (3) After receiving the results, please pay the tuition and registration fee in full.Please let us know to your payment has been made via email: 

    iie@khu.ac.kr(General), iie-english@khu.ac.kr(English), iie-chinese@khu.ac.kr(Chinese), iie-japanese@khu.ac.kr(Japanese).  


    - Once the tuition and registration fee payments have been confirmed, an acceptance letter will be issued to the email address included in the submitted documents.  


    - Once the acceptance letter has been issued, you can initiate the visa process.

    Is registration transferrable?

    Since registration is based on a person’s personal information, it is not transferrable.


    If you will not be able to attend the class, you can defer until the next semester.

    How can I be matched with a Korean Helper? 

    When a semester starts, you will see an announcement regarding how to apply to be matched with a Korean Helper.


    Follow the instructions, and you will be connected with a Korean Helper.


    Please be mindful that you may not be able to be matched with a Korean Helper if there are too many applicants.

    What is the purpose of the Korean Speech Contest?

    a. There is a significant need for a venue where foreigners in Korea and overseas can be recognized for their excellent Korean skills.


    b. It encourages everyone around the world who is learning Korean to be confident in their speaking and to stay motivated to keep studying Korean.


    c. The contest is a festival that all foreigners can enjoy regardless of age, educational background, hometown, or occupation. 


    d. While promoting friendship between Koreans and non-Koreans, the venue allows foreigners to develop different perspectives on Korean culture; thus, providing an opportunity for Koreans to reflect on themselves.


    e. Ultimately, it contributes to the globalization of Korea and the Korean language.

    Can students from different universities or non-students take a Foreign Language course?

    Yes, the courses are open to students from other universities and the public.

    How do you write a Korean Helper log?

    You can log on to the website(http://haksa.iie.ac.kr) and click on My Page to fill out the Korean Helper log. 


    The Korean Helper log is reflected in the activity evaluation, so please fill out one entry per one activity. 


    There is not a specific format, but please be sure to upload a picture taken with your Korean Helper and include the time, date,

    and details about the activity. 

  12. Q

    Who is eligible to apply for the contest? 

    Any foreigner that can speak Korean may apply.


    It you have previously won an award (qualified for the finals) at the Korean Speech Contest hosted by Kyung Hee University, you are not eligible.

     

    Also, a foreigner who has become a naturalized Korean cannot apply for the contest. 

  13. Q

    What documents do I need to submit to apply for IIE?

    The basic documents to apply for IIE differ by country and are as follows: 


    - Application Form, 1 copy of your passport, diploma or graduation certificate, bank certificate, etc.

  14. Q

    What is the registration process for a Kyung Hee Medical Center employee? 

    We do not offer any specific discounts or benefits for Kyung Hee Medical Center employees. However, you are eligible for 

    the general Kyung Hee employee benefit policy. 


    For additional information, please call the Kyung Hee Medical Center Education Support Team at 02-958-8443.


    Per your request, we will issue a certificate of course completion after your course is completed. 


    Kindly let us know at least one day before your visit, so we can prepare the document for pick-up.

  15. Q

    How do you receive a Korean Helper Volunteer Certificate after you finish volunteering as a Korean Helper?

    As long as you receive an A upon completion of your activities, you can apply for a Korean Helper Volunteer Certificate at the kiosk on the 1st floor of IIE (Seoul Campus). 


    1) Institute of International Education: You will see “Institute of International Education” on the right, select 

    “Korean” and fill out your personal information, including name and birthday. 


    - Please be sure to use the ID number provided by IIE, not by Kyung Hee University. The ID number 

    can be found under My Page on the Korean Helpers website. 


     Your certificate will indicate that you volunteered as a “Korean Helper” and show the schedule of your activities.



    Check the “time display” option on the kiosk to include the time details on the certificate. (if you have done 

    activities multiple times, the time and duration for each activity will be printed on each page of the certificate.) 


    - Please use the kiosk located on the Seoul Campus. 


     - The certificate cannot be issued by the kiosk located on the International Campus. 


    - The kiosk information stated above only applies to Korean Helpers who began volunteering after 2006. 


    If you need a certificate for volunteering activities before 2005, please visit the IIE Administration Office.
