    What are the eligibility requirements for the Institute of International Education?

    You are eligible to apply for IIE’s Korean Language courses if you are:

    a foreigner or overseas Korean who is 18 years or older.

    What is the application process for the IIE?


    The application process for the Korean Language courses is as follows:


    (1) Fill out the application documents and prepare the required documents. 

     Then mail/post them to Suite 106, Institute of International Education, Kyung Hee University, 26 Kyungheedae-ro, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, 02447, Korea.


    (2) We will notify applicants of the results after screening the application materials. 

    (Results will be sent via email. Please be sure to include your contact information on the application documents. Submitted documents will not be returned.) 


    (3) After receiving the results, please pay the tuition and registration fee in full.Please let us know to your payment has been made via email: 

    iie@khu.ac.kr(General), iie-english@khu.ac.kr(English), iie-chinese@khu.ac.kr(Chinese), iie-japanese@khu.ac.kr(Japanese).  


    - Once the tuition and registration fee payments have been confirmed, an acceptance letter will be issued to the email address included in the submitted documents.  


    - Once the acceptance letter has been issued, you can initiate the visa process.

    What documents do I need to submit to apply for IIE?

    The basic documents to apply for IIE differ by country and are as follows: 


    - Application Form, 1 copy of your passport, diploma or graduation certificate, bank certificate, etc.

    How are orientation and placement tests conducted? 

    Both orientation and placement tests are held virtually. 

    Details regarding orientation and placement tests will be sent to new students via email.

    How many students are typically in a class?

    There are typically no more than thirteen students in a class.

  6. Q

    How do I purchase textbooks?

    Physical textbooks can be purchased at the Kyung Hee University bookstore or major bookstores in Korea, such as Kyobo, Aladin, Interpark, or YES24. You can also purchase e-books from the Kyobo online store.

    If I take online courses from overseas, how do I receive a certificate of course completion and report card?

    We will send PDF versions of certificates and report cards by email to students residing abroad.

    What should I do if I need help studying Korean?

    First, we recommend that you talk to your homeroom teacher about studying Korean. If your homeroom teacher decides that you need additional counseling, we can connect you with the IIE counseling team to receive further assistance.

  9. Q

    What facilities are included in the dorms, and what does a dorm room cost?


    If you are enrolled in a Kyung Hee University IIE Korean language course, you are eligible to 

    apply to stay in a Kyung Hee dormitory. 


    There are 2 types of dormitories. One is located on campus, and the other is located near campus, making commuting convenient for students. 


    As for matters related to dormitory fees, please check our announcements regarding dormitories.

    - More detailed information will be sent via email after screening dormitory application documents.


    -  We will inform you about dormitory availability about two weeks before the start of the semester. Depending on the semester, some dormitories may not be available. 


    - We accept dormitory applications every semester. If you are enrolled for more than two semesters, you will have to reapply

    during the semester. 


    - When moving in, please be sure to pay in full including deposit. The deposit will be returned when you move out if the room has no damage or other issues. 


    - Chang Deck Ahn and Richville residents must pay separately for water and AC/heating in addition to the fees 

    noted above.


    - Fees listed above are subject to change. 


  10. Q

    How do you apply for a dormitory?

    Please follow the steps below to apply for a dormitory as an IIE student. 


    When filling out the application form, check Housing under item 14.  


    The dormitory officer will gather the list of applicants, coordinate their schedules, and assign them to dormitories. 



    Generally, dormitory assignments are announced two weeks before each semester. Please check 

    the website frequently to keep up with the announcements. 


    If you are not assigned a dormitory, please find available rentals or homestays near campus. 


  11. Q

    Does IIE provide health insurance?

    Currently, IIE does not provide health insurance to our Korean language course students. 


    The students need to purchase the insurance themselves. 

  12. Q

    Where can I find information about international exchange students or exchange student visas?

    We receive a significant number of calls about international exchange student programs and exchange student visas.  


    However, IIE does not handle these matters. 


    Please go to the International Exchange Office on the 2nd floor of the main building to find more information.

    What events does Kyung Hee University have for foreign students?

    IIE offers field trips and culture classes every semester. 


    We also offer a wide range of events during the semester, including the World Korean Language Speech Contest for Foreigners in the Spring, a social media video contest in the Summer, a photo contest in the Fall, and the Foreigners Fair in the Winter.
