Visa (or Certificate of Visa Issuance) Application Process
  • When applying for a Visa (or Certificate of Visa Issuance), during the document screening process, required documents may be waived or added depending on judgements made during the evaluation process.
  • Kyung Hee University IIE accepts students with Visas issued by foreign consulates.
  • Once accepted to the Korean Language Program, you are eligible for a D-4 or C-3 visa.
  • Depending on the nationality of the applicant and the type of Korean language course, the required documents may vary, so please contact the embassy to verify the requirements.

  • Information on Visa Issuance Confirmation
    [Eligible Applicants for Issuance of a Visa Issuance Confirmation]
    • Nationals of countries without diplomatic relations with Korea or of certain designated countries (Cuba, Syria, Kosovo, and Macedonia). However, for short-term single-entry visas valid for up to 90 days, the visa may be issued by the head of a Korean diplomatic mission abroad.
    • Persons who fall under the following visa categories: Culture and Arts (D-1), Study Abroad (D-2), Industrial Training (D-3), General Training (D-4), Journalism (D-5), Religious Affairs (D-6), Intra-Company Transfer (D-7), Corporate Investment (D-8), Trade Management (D-9), Professor (E-1), Foreign Language Instructor (E-2), Research (E-3), Technological Guidance (E-4), Professional Employment (E-5), Arts and Entertainment (E-6), Specially Designated Activities (E-7), Non-Professional Employment (E-9), Crew Employment (E-10), Visiting or Joining Family (F-1), Dependent Family (F-3), Other (G-1), and Working Visit (H-2).

    • Persons who fall under the Visa Waiver (B-1) or Tourist in Transit (B-2) visa categories
    • Persons who fall under the Job Seeker (D-10), Residency (F-2), Overseas Korean (F-4), Permanent Resident (F-5), Marriage Migrant (F-6), or Working Holiday (H-1) visa categories

    Required documents can be waived or added during the document screening process.

Common Documents for Submission
  • Passport (copy of passport if applying for Certificate of Visa Issuance)
  • Visa Issuance Application Form or Visa Issuance Approval Letter
  • Fee (single-entry visa: equivalent of USD 50, multiple-entry visa: equivalent of USD 80)

    There is no fee when applying for a Certificate of Visa Issuance.

Required Documents for Korean Language Course
  • Standard Acceptance Letter
  • Receipt of tuition payment
  • Business license
  • Kyung Hee University Language Study Plan
  • Certificate of graduation or enrollment
  • Documents verifying financial status (bank statement over KRW 10 million, transaction receipt, or currency exchange receipt)

    A reference from IIE or a letter of financial support may be substituted for financial documents.

  • For Chinese nationals: Copy of Resident Identification and Family Tree Registry.
Alien Registration Card Application
  • If you are staying in Korea longer than 90 days, you must apply for an alien registration card from the Immigration Office assigned to your address.
  • As of July 2011, you must visit the immigration office in person to scan your fingerprints for the registration.
  • Required documents for D-4 visa holders:
    • Passport & 1 copy of passport (A4 size)
    • Confirmation of Visa Issuance (Print from https://www.visa.go.kr)
    • Application Form (Available at the IIE administration office)

      Your address must match your current residence. You must visit the Seoul Immigration Office (Mok-dong) unless you reside in designated districts like Dongdaemun-gu, etc.

    • 1 color photo (3.5cm x 4.5cm) with a white background
    • Proof of Enrollment (Available via kiosk in the IIE lobby)
    • Fee: ₩35,000 (Government service fee)
Visa Extension
  • If you wish to stay longer than the approved period, you must obtain permission for a visa extension.
  • Application Period
    • Apply from 4 months before your current visa expires until the expiration date.
    • Fines apply if you request an extension after the expiration date (Immigration Law Article 25).
  • Application Process
    • Submit the application to the immigration office having jurisdiction over your residence.
    • The applicant must be physically present in Korea on the date of application.

    • Certificate of Enrollment & Attendance
    • Proof of residence (Dormitory Confirmation or Lease Agreement)
    • Financial documents (Bank statement) or Letter of Guarantee
    • Fee: ₩60,000
